Sometimes I Get High Watching My Friends Do Drugs

from Reality TV by Quiet Hours

/

about

We spent the past year recording our second album "Reality TV", which showcases a new sophistication and introspection in our lyrics and songwriting. This record reflects the strange realities of growing up during the dissociative experience of social interaction through digital screens. Produced by local engineer Matt Very, we strived to capture a new range of emotions by incorporating electronic elements and experimenting with textured soundscapes to make an album that feels beautifully disjointed and wholesome at the same time. The song “Sometimes I Get HIgh Watching My Friends Do Drugs” captures these themes by cherishing brief moments during the past two years of being able to reconvene with old friends and celebrate together as though nothing had ever changed.

lyrics

1st verse

i’m staring it down
watching the clouds rise up
over my outstretched arms
turn off the lights
Debbie play something slow
on your twelve string guitar
lay on the ground
watching the shadows dance
across the kitchen floor
just for tonight
feels like we never left
the world outside our door

Pre-chorus

‘cause every time i fall apart it shows
so i just need to stop and let you know
that there’s no better way to waste my time

Chorus

i didn’t know that i could get this high
seeking out the silver in the sky
feel like floating back to you
i don’t ever wanna let go
heaven knows how many things i’ve tried
to make the corners of our life collide
show me every way you move
i don’t ever wanna let go

2nd verse

Wake from a trance
Shielding my eyes from raindrops
Falling in the streets

Spin me around
Show me the strength it takes
To sweep me off my feet

Final Pre-chorus (after synth solo)

And every time I fall apart it shows
So I just need to stop and let you know
I never felt complete when left alone
But deeply share the roots that we have grown
So Grab a bottle from the highest shelf
To take me out from underneath myself
There’s no better way to waste my time
